Perverted Grace how sweet the sound
Deceived a wretch like me,
God loves me now
Just as I am,
Although I’m still not free.
My sinful state
God understands
Although I cling to sin
No need to try and overcome
This wretched state I’m in
Content to play the part without
Yet never look within
For if I did
I would realize
I must repent from sin
I resolve to run this race therefore
And try my best to win
Yet keep my mind on earthly things
And wallow in my sin
Perverted Grace
I love you so
False peace you’ve preached to me
To live enslaved by all my sins
Yet tell the world I’m free
Perverted Grace
You’ve captured me
Yet haven’t changed one thing
And when I stand before my Lord
These words to Him I’ll Sing
My Lord! My Lord! I love you so
For You I’ve done great things
Depart! Depart! He will reply
Such dread these words will bring
Perverted Grace
You sealed my fate
The lies you preached to me
I only have myself to blame
A dark eternity!
A poem by The Author of my Faith
There is a saying that I have heard throughout the years that went something like this :“If you want be disappointed look around, if you want to be discouraged look within, if you want to be encouraged look to Christ”. I understand the truth that we need to look to Christ always, but it does not diminish our obligation to look within daily. We need to examine ourselves daily in light of God’s Word so that we do not deceive ourselves. We do not want to run in vain and after all our labor and efforts end up hearing those dreaded words; “Depart from me I never knew you”.
Perverted Grace never looks within and deals with sin. It simply tells us, “nobody is perfect, God understands.” But the true Grace of God causes us to look within to make sure that we are keeping in step with God’s Word.
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ”
- Titus 2:11-13
The Psalmist cried out:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”
- Psalm 139: 23-24
